Peeing Outside The Box and/or Spraying
We think of this problem in three groups.Mild Case. Moderate Case.  Severe Case.
 
Mild Case
• If only one cat is urinating or spraying
• If the urine or spraying problem began less than 3 months ago
• If this happens sporadically or several times a week, or occasionally
• If there is cat urine in only one room
• If there is cat urine in one favorite spot, maybe two spots in that room
• If cat(s) use their litter boxes 95% of the time
• There is occasional fighting
 
Solving this problem could take about 2 or 3 months (sometimes longer) of diligent and daily product usage.  You may need to use these products "as needed" longer or indefinately for reinforcement.   Most cats will stop, other cats won't stop completely, but the problem is usually lessened so its a rare occurance and most people feel they can live with that.  
 
Feliway spray is used to spot treat the areas where you have found urine once a day for 6 to 8 weeks. One or two squirts applied to a 7 inch spot is all you usually need.  It needs to be used daily and it is applied to surfaces.   We suggest 2 - 4 bottles to start with.  
 
Comfort Zone for Cats plug-in for each room where you are finding urine.  Comfort Zone sends the message "I'm not to leave urine in this room."  If the room is large consider two Comfort Zone for Cats plug ins. You might want to have a Comfort Zone in rooms which have not been urinated in for prevention and general calming.   The bottle that comes with your plug-in/diffuser unit will last one month. Refills are available.  
 
Flower Essences put in cat's food and water on a daily basis will boost Feliway and Comfort Zone's effectiveness. Our two best formulas for the urination problem and harmonizing cats are Multi Cat Household, and Territorial Rescue. Customers often get both formulas and rotate them, but generally one of the formulas will be all that's needed for a mild case. When the situation is "looking' good" you might not need to use the products again or you might need them as needed or occasionally for reinforcement.  You might need to use Feliway spray a few times a week or you might let the Comfort Zone plug-ins take over.  Many of our customers keep a 1/4 bottle of Feliway on hand in case they need it while others use their spray a few times a week for maintance.   Most cats enjoy the flower essences as a forever-thing.

Moderate Case
*  If one or two cats are urinating or spraying or both
*  If the urine or spraying problem began 3 to 12 months ago
*  If this happens several times a week, sometimes daily
*  If there is cat urine in mostly one room, perhaps one other room
*  If there is cat urine in 3 - 5 places per room
*  If cat(s) generally use litter boxes
*  There is fighting which happens several times a week
 
Solving this problem could take any where from 2 to 6 months (sometimes longer) of diligent daily product usage.  Once that period of faithful usage is over may need to use products "as needed" indefinately.   Please note that most cats do stop, but sometimes a cat won't stop completely.  In that case the problem is usually lessened so that its a very rare occurance and most people feel they can live with that.
 
Feliway spray to spot treat the areas where you have found urine once a day for 8 weeks - twice a day would be even better if you can fit it into your schedule.  . One or two squirts applied to a 7 inch spot is all you usually need.  It needs to be used daily and it is applied to surfaces. After 8 weeks you might be able to cut back every other day or a few times a week, you'll need to experiement.  We suggest 2 - 4 bottles to start.
 
Comfort Zone for Cats plug-in for each room that has been hit with urine. If the room is large consider getting two plug-ins. You might also get a Comfort Zone plug-in for rooms in the house where the cats spend time but have not yet urinated. This could prevent spraying/urinating in those rooms.   We suggest getting enough refill bottles to last 3 to 5 months for each plug-in.

Severe Case
• If 2 or more cats are urinating or spraying or both
 If there is cat urine in more than two rooms
•  If the urine or spraying problem began more than 12 months ago or has been on and off for many years
•  If this happens on a daily basis, several times a day
•  If there are so many urine stains you can't count them all
•  If cat(s) seldom or sporadically use litter boxes
•  There is fighting which can cause injury, daily to many times a week
 
Solving this problem could take about 3 to 6 months (perhaps longer) of diligent and daily product usage. It's very hard to say how many months it will take when the case is severe. You could be "in for the long haul" but we have seen miraculous things happen in these tough cases, and they can even happen quickly. Other times it's a slow process. Count on using the products for at least 4 or 5 months on a daily basis. Because the problem is so old and severe you might never get it to stop completely, but we should be able to get it so that it's an occasional problem..  You may need to use products "as needed" or  indefinately.   
 
Feliway spray to spot treat the areas where you have found urine twice a day for 8 - 10 weeks minimum.  One or two squirts applied to a 7 inch spot is all you usually need.  It needs to be used daily and it is applied to surfaces.   We suggest at least 3 bottles to start with.
 
Comfort Zone for Cats plug-in for each room that has been hit with urine. If the room is large and the cat is hitting every corner and all sides of the room, we suggest that you install two Comfort Zone units. Installing additional Comfort Zone for Cats units in rooms where you have not found urine helps prevent them from spraying/peeing in those rooms and gives a calming effect. We suggest that you get enough refills to last 3 or 6 months.
 
Flower Essences twice a day in cat's food and water bowl can really help turn a severe situation around.  We suggest Multi Cat Household and/or Territorial Rescue.. Some cats might benefit from other formulas such as Past Abuse or Calm and Serene for nervous cats.  Formulas can be rotated in any manner that's easy for you - some people do one formula in the morning and another in the evening.  See the Flower Essences page for more detail and other formulas that could benefit your cats.

Fighting Felines

If you have more than one cat the odds are there will be the occassional hissy fit.  These generally happen once or twice a week when one cat insults another, tries to crowd another cat out of a sunny spot on the floor, or feels the other is getting more attention, etc. This is all quite normal.  But when there is screaming, wild hissing, swatting and biting, and it happens nearly daily then we have Fighting Felines who need some calming down.
 
Solving this problem can happen quickly or can take several months of dedication from you to provide a peaceful home and to use the correct calming and friend-making products.
 
Feliway spray can be used "here and there" throughout the house (suggested objects are sofas, sleeping areas, sunny spots etc) once or twice a day for 6 - 8 weeks.
 
Comfort Zone plug-ins were created to calm homes with flighting felines.  We suggest 1 or 2 in each room where the cats spend most of their time, and in hallways.
 
Flower Essences will speed up the process of making friends.  Some of our customers rotate Multi Cat Household and Territorial Rescue and give both to all of the cats.  Past Abuse has been wonderful for the cat who was picked on and bullied. We want to see the cats accepting and tolerating each other and living in peace.
 
When the situation is "looking' good" you might not need to use the products again, however to keep the peace you might want to use Feliway spray a few times a week and have a few Comfort Zones scattered around the house  Cats find the smell of the Feliway pheromone very calming and it makes them happy. Most cats enjoy the flower essences as a forever-thing.

Nervous Cats

Some cats are naturally "fraidy cats."  Everything and anything can spook them.  While we probably cannot change the essence of who the cat is we can offer some calming relief and improve their quality of life.   
 
Solving the problem is most likely going to be an ongoing thing.  If your cat runs when company comes - that may never change.  But kitty should feel better soon.
 
Comfort Zone plug-in is probably your best bet.  Its easy for you to use and its purpose is for calming.  Install one or two in each room of the house where the cat(s) spends most of the day.

Flower Essences will help our jittery friends.  Calm and Serene or Past Abuse are great.  Even if a cat wasn't truly abused she may think she was - those little things in life could stand out in her mind as traumatic abuse.  If you have several cats and one is picked on all of the cats would benefit from Multi Cat Household.
 
When the situation is "looking' good " you might not need to use the products again, however really nervous or jittery cats will never be completely as laid back as other cats.  For any changes in the home you might want to start at the beginning again.  Some of the products might be a forever-thing. Comfort Zone plug-ins scattered throughout the house are probably a good idea. Most cats enjoy the flower essences as a forever-thing.

Aggressive Cats

Some cats are naturally crabby and bossy which can lead to aloofness, hissing at the other cats, and unprovoked fighting. Sometimes these cats don't like some of their human housemates. Let's chill out a cranky kitty.  Make sure that the cat is healthy (kidney problems can cause personality changes) and not in any pain.
 
Solving the problem is most likely going to be an ongoing thing.  If your cat rules with a stern paw she will probably always be Top Cat, but we should be able to mellow her out!.
 
Comfort Zone plug-in is probably your best bet.  Its easy for you to use and its purpose is for calming.  Install one or two in each room of the house where the cat spends most of the day.
 
Flower Essences will help our fearless leader.   Multi Cat Household, Territorial Rescue, or Calm and Serene are good choices and you could rotate formulas.   When there is aggression in the home or a lot of fighting we often suggest all of the cats be given the flower essences.  Past Abuse would be nice for the cats who get picked on or stalked.  
 
When the situation is "looking' good" you might not need to use the products again, however, even a reformed crabby cat will have her moments!  You might want to have a few Comfort Zones scattered throughout the house and use Feliway spray as needed.  Most cats enjoy the flower essences as a forever-thing.

Introducing a New Cat Or Merging Two Households of Cats

Solving this problem can happen quickly or can take several months - even up to a full year!  You need to be patient and keep a cool head, take it slowly, as well as provide a peaceful home.  Supervise slow and calm "get acquainted sessions" ending each session on a positive note (stop and separate the cats before there's any serious hissing or attempts at fighting).  Use the correct calming and friend-making products every day until you feel they are friends.
 
Feliway spray used "here and there" throughout the house (suggested objects are sofas, sleeping areas, sunny spots, doorways etc) once or twice a day for 6 - 8 weeks.  If cats are in separate rooms spray those rooms and spray both sides of the door for when they sniff at each other from their respective side of the door.
 
Comfort Zone plug-ins are a great idea as it will put the calming and harmonizing scent in the air 24/7.  We suggest 1 or 2 in the rooms where the cats spend most of their time
 
Flower Essences will speed up the process of making friends.  Some of our customers rotate Multi Cat Household and Territorial Rescue.  One formula could be used in the morning and the other in the evening.
 
When the situation is "looking' good" you might not need to use the products again or you'll use Comfort Zone's refills as a forever-thing or you might want to use Feliway spray a couple times a week.  Most cats enjoy the flower essences as a forever-thing.

Cats Scratching on Furniture and Rugs

Solving this problem is tricky.  Cats often can't resist a sofa covered in a nice textured fabric.  But you can help by trimming the cat's nails about every 10 - 14 days.  Also provide a "cat condo" that's taller than 4 feet so that it won't tip over.  Cats love condos with tiers for resting and playing.  Most cats enjoy a mix of carpet and sisal.  
 
Feliway spray used daily helps slow down the frequency of cats scratching at furniture.  It does not work 100% of the time, your cat might still scratch on occassion.  Spray daily for a few weeks to see if your cat responds and stops scratching.  You may need to use the spray several times a week for reinforcement.  Feliway spray is more effective on "vertical scratching" than on "horizontal scratching (rugs).
